About Ariens

Designed and manufactured in Brillion, Wisconsin, Ariens outdoor power equipment has been serving commercial operators and homeowners for over 90 years. Our customers labelled us ‘The King of Snow’, a marque that has been earned through the consistent and relentless development of world-class snow throwers year-after-year – over 4 million since 1960. Each new model builds upon the legacy of a timeless formula: rugged, dependable and uncompromised performance.

Ariens continues to innovate, to find new ways to make the chore of clearing snow faster, efficient and more comfortable for the operator. Take a look on forums and social media around the world and you’ll find countless stories of machines being handed down from generation to generation, still performing as well as they did the day they were made.

Passionate People and Astounded Customers

Ariens has been at the forefront of zero-turn technology since its inception. With decades of experience, our range of ride-on lawnmowers are designed around three core principles: durability, ease-of-maintenance and operator comfort. We work with professional operators throughout Europe and the U.S. to understand how our products are to be used and how they can be improved to further enhance these requirements. Even our range of homeowner machines are built to those same exacting standards set by those who rely on our equipment for their livelihoods.

As a fourth-generation, family owned company, we strive to conduct ourselves with the same level of respect, honesty and kindness that was established by the company founders in 1933. Each and every employee, dealer and supplier is expected to live by our vision of Passionate People and Astounded Customers and we live by five core principles that define how we wish to do business:

We will:

  • Be honest
  • Be fair
  • Keep our commitments
  • Respect the individual
  • Encourage intellectual curiosity

A family business

In our field of business, we have remained one of the few family-owned companies. In the fourth generation, since 1933, we live “family” every day in our company. Our streamlined communication channels, decentralised organisational structure and straightforward decisionmaking procedures enable us to effectively address customer feedback.

Passionate people

The people who make our products are passionate about what they do – ensuring the best job is done, day in day out. Skilled craftmanship is what makes an Ariens really stand out. Ariens products are made across the U.S. and Europe.

Outstanding products

Our customers – you – decide whether our machines are good. If our machines do what you ask them to do over the years, then we have succeeded. We have succeeded since 1933. Our goal is clear: to build the best machines for you – then, now and in the future. This is what our name stands for.

Astounded customers

Hundreds of thousands of customers use Ariens products every day, worldwide. We regularly receive letters from satisfied and enthusiastic users. It is this customer recognition that motivates us.

A global company with small town roots

AriensCo was founded in 1933 by Henry Ariens and his three sons – Steve, Leon and Francis after they developed the first American-made rotary tiller. It took many years of experimentation, education and perseverance before rotary tilling became accepted as a proven agricultural tool. The Ariens family conducted educational programmes to teach commercial growers, nurserymen and landscapers how the new Ariens ‘Model A’ tiller, powered with an air-cooled engine, “plows as it discs as it harrows.”

Many commercial tiller models followed, all aimed at improving output for vegetable growers across the United States. AriensCo introduced the more compact ‘Model B’ tiller, the Roller-Tiller, the Multi-Tiller Tractor Tiller, the Jitterbug single-row front rotary tiller and the Tillivator RC for celery growers in Florida.

AriensCo entered the snow thrower market at the urging of an Ariens distributor in the Northeast of America who wanted a two-stage snow thrower for home snow removal. Product design began on December 15, 1959 and by March 1960, a prototype was complete. Test models were demonstrated to distributors throughout the Snowbelt. The company started production in July 1960, producing 1,865 units in the first season.

By the late 1970s, Ariens was producing more than 100,000 Sno-Thro machines each season. By 2018, Ariens produced its four millionth Sno-Thro and held a public celebration. Today, Ariens remain the ‘King of Snow’®.

Ariens entered the lawn and garden market in 1958 with its first riding lawn mower. To meet ever increasing demand, the company built and opened a 23,000 square foot manufacturing plant in Brillion, Wisconsin in 1963. Up until the 1980s, Ariens had focused mainly on the residential mower market, but expanded into the commercial mower market through the acquisition of Gravely Company in 1982.

In 2010, the company grew its footprint into Europe, purchasing Countax Limited and Sovde, a Scandinavian distributor of outdoor power equipment. Along with garden tractors, AriensCo began producing its range of petrol zero-turns at its U.K. plant in 2019 – making it the first manufacturer to do so in Europe.

Today, Ariens products are sold in every major market in the world.
